India Successfully Conducts Test of Agni-5 Nuclear-Capable Missile

Successful Test-Firing of Agni-5

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Defence announced that India has successfully conducted a test of its nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), Agni-5, from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) located in Chandipur, Odisha.


According to a press release from the Ministry, the Agni-5 missile was launched on August 20, 2025, and the test confirmed all operational and technical specifications. The launch was executed under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command.



Previously, on July 18, India successfully tested Short-Range Ballistic Missiles (SRBM), Prithvi-II and Agni-I, from the same Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha, as stated by the Ministry of Defence.


These tests were conducted on a Thursday, and all operational and technical parameters were confirmed.


The tests were also carried out under the Strategic Forces Command's oversight.


On July 16, India marked a significant achievement by successfully neutralizing two high-speed aerial unmanned targets at high altitudes in Ladakh using the Akash Prime, an upgraded version of the Akash Weapon System designed for the Indian Army.


This weapon system is tailored for operations at altitudes exceeding 4,500 meters and features the latest enhancements, including a domestically developed Radio Frequency seeker, as per the official release. Various upgrades have been implemented based on user feedback to enhance operational effectiveness, showcasing the benefits of the indigenous weapon system ecosystem.


The statement highlighted that the Army Air Defence and DRDO, in collaboration with Defence PSUs like Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited, along with other industry partners, have successfully validated the indigenously designed and developed Akash Prime Weapon System.
